Bicycle Boxes
Introduction
Bicycle boxes are primarily used to allow people biking to stop ahead of the traffic queue to increase visibility and reduce conflicts at the beginning of the green signal phase. This is particularly helpful in reducing conflict points with right-turning drivers.

Only install at signalized intersections. |

Striping |
Stripe with solid green pavement paint or durable pavement markings to improve visibility for drivers. See Figure 3.7E.12 for details. Bike box striping should typically extend across no more than one travel lane |

Signage |
“NO TURN ON RED” (R10-11) or “STOP HERE ON RED” (R10-6a) restrictions with and “EXCEPT BICYCLES” plaque (R3-7bP) should be used to prevent vehicles from entering the queuing area. |
